From Classic Cars to Racing Specials

During the autumn PRAGUE CAR FESTIVAL, vintage car enthusiasts will have the unique opportunity to admire some of the finest gems from the French automotive industry of the early 20th century.

One of the highlights will be a Panhard-Levassor X36 from 1923, showcased as part of the SPIES HECKER CLASSIC EXPO. Founded in 1887 by René Panhard and Emile Levassor, this pioneering French carmaker, thanks to early collaborations with Germany’s Daimler, became renowned for its reliable and technically advanced vehicles. The Panhard-Levassor X36 is a prime example, featuring a five-seat sedan design with a 3270 mm wheelbase, and powered by a unique 3.2-liter, 27 kW (36 hp) Knight sleeve-valve four-cylinder engine, delivering 2400 rpm. With a four-speed gearbox, this car could reach a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph).

Another fascinating exhibit at this year’s show will be the French Peugeot 302, known for its characteristic aerodynamic bodywork. First unveiled in 1936 at the Paris Motor Show, it was produced for only 18 months, with over 25,000 units made. Its rear wheels are driven by a 1.8-liter gasoline inline-four engine producing 43 hp, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. This four-door “Berline” model, measuring 4.5 meters in length, was designed to transport five passengers in style.

On the racing side, a standout at the SPIES HECKER CLASSIC EXPO will be a 1928 Bugatti 37A, representing French historic racing specials. Between 1926 and 1931, the legendary Ettore Bugatti built a total of 67 of these models. The car on display was purchased as a mere chassis with an engine from a Spartak, and after an eleven-year restoration by Jiří Šilha, it now shines once again. The compressor for the 1496 cc OHC inline-four engine took ten years to source. Today, this rare beauty, driven by Vojtěch Masojídek’s grandson, produces 66 kW (90 hp) at 5000 rpm, allowing the car to reach a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph), thanks to its four-speed manual transmission.

Cars in all their forms and colors are featured by SPIES HECKER AUTO PAINTS.
